What’s your most valuable asset in life? Says Rabbi Zelig Pliskin, “Friends, classmates, parents, siblings… they’re what we cherish most in life. Now you can learn how to protect your greatest treasure from damage, keeping your relationships shining bright. It’s all in the power of the words you speak.”
One of my blogofriends, an amazing blogger and a great and caring human being, Robert of, was “blown away” by my using a Janis Joplin quote in a post. I promised to quote Jim Morrison next, so here is Jim Morrison weighing in on friendship:
Twice, during hurricanes, we found safe haven in friends’ warm and hospitable abodes.

Friends and family shoudl be your safe haven during your emotional hurricanes as well. Pirkei Avos (Ethics of Our Fathers) implores,”Get for yourself a teacher, find yourself a friend, and judge every man favorably.”
Let’s find our friends wisely and make it our mission to bring joy into their lives, using the power of words positively!

What are your goals and how do you go about reaching them? Do you get frustrated and stressed out along the way? Everybody does! Our June get-together was inspired by a great blogger Phoebe at Watch our videos and practice THE POWER OF CHANGE.

As more and more people are walking in, I want to thank all of you, Beautiful People, who have found us at our new location, as well as all 19 of you who have bravely stayed up at our new meeting time to join us by remote access. We are growing and gaining momentum, and it is all because of you, your participation, and your support!

As we are discovering that a positive change is just as much of a stressor as a negative one, we are learning to access the power of change. Practice with us!

Following the exercise, a club member gets her courage together and communicates her need. Watch how her request inspires everybody to brainstorm and come up with helpful suggestions. Meanwhile, we are ready to play ball – Chocolate Halva Balls! Detailed recipe is on my cooking blog, Kool Kosher Kitchen, right here. 

It certainly feels good to know that you have done something for your fellow human being. Access this feeling when stress moves in on your serenity and joy. Your homework for next month is to think of something you can do for self-improvement.  Picture yourself actually doing it!

Join us by phone or by internet, and if you want to create a totally delicious, chocolaty no-bake vegan dessert, this is what you need:
  • 2 cups raw sesame seeds
  • 1 cup dates (preferably Medjool)
  • ½ cup unsweetened cacao powder
  • Vanilla extract
  • Salt
  • Agave

The Power of Change

It’s not easy, but then nothing in life that is worthwhile comes easily! You have to work at it, put in a conscious, mindful effort. We are going to learn and practice THE POWER OF CHANGE at our next lasting Joy Club get-together, on Tuesday, June 26.

The first change coming your way is a change of venue and time. We are meeting on my home ground, at Chabad of South Beach, 320 Meridian Avenue, Miami Beach, Florida 33139, and we are meeting at 7:00 PM.  It should not make a difference to those club members who are joining us by remote access, and I will post remote access information tomorrow.

As always, while we are sharing, discussing, and practicing new happiness techniques, we will be making something joyfully delicious and definitely chocolate.

Water Your Inner Blossoms

Do you have a precious flower inside you, waiting to blossom? I am sure you do! Do you water it regularly? Do you lovingly nourish it with care and praise? Do you acknowledge that IT IS GOOD; therefore, YOU ARE GOOD?

You are YOU, and you are GOOD, even when you occasionally make mistakes – everybody does! We have learned how to deal with feelings of failure and guilt that often follow mistakes at our last Lasting Joy Club get-together. Watch these videos:

As you see, it is a three-step procedure:

  1. First, you acknowledge your mistake by spreading your arms wide bending your head a little, and saying Blunder! in as childish and funny way as you can.
  2. Second, you bring your arms forward, hug yourself and affirm that you are good by saying I am good!
  3. Third, correct your mistake, if at all possible, or make up for it by making a strong, forceful lunge forward with an open palm of your working hand, saying Let’s do it!

Practice at home, privately, with no one watching you, not even yourself in the mirror. Once you’ve practice enough, your body memory will generate the feeling of confidence, rather than feelings of failure and guilt, next time you make a Blunder!

While our delicious pies are cooling their hills in refrigerator, the final part of our get-together, as always, is dedicated to discussion and homework.

You homework for June, Beautiful People is to think of something positive you would like to do. Share it with us on the last Tuesday of June, and who knows? – perhaps you’ll even have a chance to do it!

When we make a serious mistake or commit an error in judgement that sometimes causes irreversible, or even painful consequences, we tend to start a self-blaming cycle: “Why did I not think…  Why have I not anticipated… How could I?” This kind of anguish, while quite understandable, stands in the way of constructive action (based on D. Petrov). 1 no-bake pie crust, or make your own by pressing Graham cracker crumbs, mixed with Smart Balance or any other non-dairy butter, into a pie form

With an apology for yet another delay caused by technology sabotaging my work, I am happy to report to you, Beautiful People, that our April Lasting Joy club get-together was successful, inspirational, and a lot of fun. In addition to new club members who were physically present, the number of remote access participants has been growing steadily, from month to month. Here are the videos:
